d’Indy - Choral Varié, Op. 55 - trans. for Alto Flute
D’Indy composed Choral Varié pour Saxophone solo (ou Alto) et Orchestre in 1903, and also created his own orchestral reduction for saxophone (or viola) and piano. The piece adapts nicely to the alto flute, highlighting the beautiful, intimate quality of that instrument’s low-register tones.
Haydn – Fugue from Op.20 No.2 - arr. for Flute Quartet
Haydn's development of the string quartet reached maturity with his "Sun" quartets Op.20. The finales of three of those are fugues that set the standard for contrapuntal texture in quartets. John Pratt arranged the Op.20 No.2 fugue for flute quartet; the movement is energetic, offers a nice distribution of activity among the parts, and is fun to play.Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC
